On June 8, 2023, VP Harris announced over $100 million in support to be provided to the Caribbean.
Prime Minister John Briceño noted that the United States as a leader in the global political economy is vital to the survival of our region’s developing economies.
“We discussed with USA Vice President Kamala Harris issues of climate change and resilience, energy and food security, access to multilateral financing as well as climate smart technology for agriculture and regional cooperation and citizen security issues with a special focus on Haiti,” the Prime Minister said.
“My intervention urged an appreciation of the impact climate change has had on our traditional practices once used by our Mayan ancestors like my grandfather who lived to 102 years,” he added.
PM Briceno urged that “this erosion of culture demands global political economic justice that include access to special financing programmes, technology and innovation to secure our adaptabity to the negative impacts of climate change and allow for global action to curb the impacts of climate change.”
