International News: Taiwan engages in coastal drills

Posted: Saturday, June 10, 2023. 1:40 pm CST.

By Zoila Palma Gonzalez: Taiwan’s patrol boats engaged in a coastal drill today as the island faces increased pressure from China, the Associated French Press reports.

In addition, officers descended by rope from a helicopter during a staged hostage crisis.

Taiwan is ramping up its military drills after reports of more incursions by China’s military.

When the staged drill concluded, officers saluted President Tsai Ing-wen, who waved from the pier.

“Everyone who participated in today’s drill are our country’s front-line defenders. I want to emphasize again, we have to strengthen ourselves in order to ensure peace in the Taiwan Strait,” President Tsai said.

“The more we are united, the more secure we are; the more secure Taiwan is, the safer the world will be,” she added.
