By Zoila Palma Gonzalez: Today, the Belmopan City Council honored the late Sir George Noel Brown, a distinguished figure in Belize with the unveiling of his plaque at the Sir George Brown Park.
Born in Gales Point, Manatee, Sir George dedicated over 40 years of his life to serving the people of Belize.
He started his career as a lay magistrate and steadily climbed the ranks, eventually becoming the Chief Justice of the Supreme Court of Belize from 1991 to 1998.
Sir George was the second native-born Belizean to hold this esteemed position, a testament to his legal acumen and commitment to justice.
Beyond his legal achievements, Sir George had a deep passion for sailing and was known for his enthusiastic support of the annual Baron Bliss Harbor Regatta races.
He found great joy in observing talented football players, often mentoring and offering his support to them.
His love for sports, particularly football, made him a familiar face on the field, where he quietly observed the game.
In recognition of his remarkable service to the community, especially his dedication to youth and sports, Her Majesty Queen Elizabeth lI bestowed upon him the title of Knight Bachelor on January 5, 1991.
Special guest at the plaque unveiling was Sir George’s wife, Lady Magdalene Brown who honored his remarkable contributions to Belizean society.
