By Rubén Morales Iglesias: 7 Miles ran over Santa Familia 4-1 to rake third place in the Cayo Football Association’s (Cayo FA) Micho Chebat 1st Division Football Championship on Thursday night at the Norman Broaster Stadium in San Ignacio.

Both teams started off trying to gain control of the pace but, though it took a while, 7 Miles struck first when Humberto Albeño found the net in the 40th minute. The crowd erupted in cheers as 7 Miles took the lead.

Just before halftime, Alfredo Zetina scored another goal for 7 Miles in the 45th, bringing the score to 2-0. Santa Familia tried to fight back, but they were unable to break through the 7 Miles’ defense.

In the second half, Eric Guerra managed to score a goal for Santa Familia in the 63rd minute, giving them hope for a comeback. But it was not meant to be. Nechemias Cisneros chipped in another goal for 7 Miles making it 3-1 in the 78th minute. Roberto Santos then put the cherry on the cake in the 87th minute.

When the final whistle blew and the dust settled, 7 Miles had recorded a convincing 4-1 victory to collect the third-place hardware.

With the season over, Santa Familia now take a well-deserved break. 7 Miles, however, by virtue of winning the Cayo FA Opening Season, qualified to the National Amateur Interdistrict Championship which kicks off this weekend.  They’ll be facing Belmopan Champions Club Atletico at 6:00 pm at the Isidoro Beaton Stadium in the Capital on Sunday.

In the second game of the doubleheader, Flames clinched the Cayo FA’s Micho Chebat 1st Division Closing Championship with a 2-0 triumph over Bullet Tree in the one-off Final. Flames also qualified to the NAIC and will host Belize City’s Caesar Ridge at 3:30 pm on Saturday at the Norman Broaster Stadium.
