Posted: Thursday, June 22, 2023. 10:05 pm CST.

By Aaron Humes: The islands of Dominica, Saint Lucia, Martinique, Barbados and St Vincent and the Grenadines in the Eastern Caribbean are under a tropical storm warning tonight as Tropical Storm Bret moves through.

As of 9 p.m. Belize time, the center of Tropical Storm Bret was immediately east of St Vincent and immediately south of St Lucia, moving west near 18 miles per hour with maximum sustained winds of 60 miles per hour. On the forecast track according to the National Hurricane Center, Bret will move through and away from the Windward Islands in the next several hours, continuing westward through the eastern and central Caribbean Sea on Friday and Saturday. Gradual weakening is anticipated and the storm is likely to dissipate by Saturday night or Sunday.

Tropical-storm-force winds extend outward up to 115 miles from the center. The Hewanorra International Airport on St. Lucia recently reported sustained winds of 41 miles per hour and a wind gust of 69 miles per hour. Tropical-storm conditions are also being reported from Martinique.

Meanwhile, Tropical Storm Cindy has formed over the central tropical Atlantic but is still more than 1,100 miles east of the Lesser Antilles. Winds are at 40 miles per hour and the track is west-north-west at 14 miles per hour. On the forecast track, the system is expected to remain well northeast of the northern Leeward Islands through early next week. Some strengthening is forecast during the next couple of days.

No other tropical weather formations are currently expected.
