Caye Caulker man charged for assaulting his ex-girlfriend released after complainant drops charges

By Breaking Belize News Staff: A Caye Caulker man who was remanded to the Belize Central Prison after allegedly assaulting his ex-girlfriend was set free after the complainant dropped the charges.

Giovanni Fernandez was charged and offered bail in the sum of $800, after allegedly dragging his 36-year-old girlfriend off a bed and choking her. He was unable to post bail and remanded until he could.

Reports are that after hearing of his remand the complainant told the court she does not with to pursue the matter any further. She was questioned as to whether she was being threatened, bribed or otherwise coerced to drop the charges, to which she said “no.”

With that, Fernandez was free to go. The incident was said to have stemmed from the complainant deciding to leave Fernandez.
