Tropical Storm Bret throws heavy rain and winds in St. Vincent and the Grenadines

By Zoila Palma Gonzalez: This morning, Tropical Storm Bret struck Saint Vincent and the Grenadines with heavy rains and winds.

According to Reuters, the country opened shelters and many residents near the coastline evacuated.

The Saint Lucia Government also issued a hurricane watch and residents were advised to remain indoors until the all clear is given.

In addition, public facilities were closed as Tropical Storm Bret approached.

In St. Lucia and Martinique, authorities closed schools prior to the arrival of Bret.

Maximum sustained winds have decreased to near 50 mph (85 km/h) with higher gusts.

Tropical Storm Bret is forecast to weaken and dissipate over the central Caribbean in the next few days.
