By Zoila Palma Gonzalez: On June 23, 2023, Minister of Education, Culture, Science and Technology. Francis Fonseca met with Ashley Langford, President of the National Students’ Union of Belize (NSUB) and Andrea Neal, Director of Student Affairs at the NSUB.
Discussions included opportunities and various issues of concern for tertiary-level students.
Minister Fonseca relayed the progress made by the Ministry in the implementation of the National Accreditation Council and the new National Competency-based Curriculum.
In addressing concerns of access for special needs students to tertiary institutions, the Ministry has committed to having the NSUB meet with the Special Education Unit to learn more about the SpEd Unit’s work and how they can collaborate to further this progress.
The Ministry also determined that it would explore the possibility of discounted transportation fares for tertiary-level students and look into the organization of a students’ forum on the new National Competency-based Curriculum.
