Ministry of Education honors stakeholders that contributed to revision of curriculum

By Zoila Palma Gonzalez: On June 22, 2023, the Ministry of Education, Culture, Science and Technology represented by Chief Executive Officer Dian Maheia recognized 68 individuals and organisations for their contributions to the creation and revision of the primary and secondary Belizean Studies curriculum.

The Ministry also recognized master teachers who delivered quality Belizean Studies professional development sessions in their zone and those teachers who attended the professional development sessions.

Additionally, 19 secondary schools who piloted the Belizean Studies curriculum, were recognized for their endeavors.

“Our Ministry remains firmly committed to advancing and promoting African and Maya history in our education curriculum. By focusing on these areas we strengthen our Belizean identity, further the appreciation of our history, society and people, and allow our youths to make the right decisions to lead our country forward,” the Ministry noted.

Invited guests included Yolanda Gongora, Chief Education Officer; Luisola Castillo, Chief Librarian; Senator Elena Smith, President of the Belize National Teachers’ Union; and Ines Paquiul, Ag. Director of the Curriculum and Assesment (Curriculum) Unit; Dr. Angel Cal, founding president of the University of Belize.
