By Breaking Belize News Staff: One man from a group of three accepting responsibility for an illegal firearm did not save the other two from being criminally charged in the Belize City Magistrate’s Court this week.
The men – 22-year-old Luis Marin, 25-year-old Clifford Ferguson, and 24-year-old Clinton Medina – appeared in the Belize City Magistrate’s Court on Monday, following their initial arraignment held on Friday, June 23. They were jointly charged with one count of keeping an unlicensed firearm and keeping unlicensed ammunition.
During their arraignment, Medina pleaded guilty to the charges, telling the court that he was the one who took the weapon into the vehicle that police would later search and find the weapon in, but that the weapon was not his. The prosecutor said that he would need instruction from the Director of Public Prosecutions on whether or not the charges against Ferguson and Marin should be dropped.
In court, they learned that the charges against them will not be dropped and they were further remanded to the Belize Central Prison.
Sentencing was deferred to a later date for Medina while Marin and Ferguson are scheduled to return to court on August 24.
