Store owner drops charges in attempted scam

Posted: Monday, July 3, 2023. 12:25 pm CST.

By Aaron Humes: Having gotten her money back, a Belize City store owner agreed to drop prosecution of 40-year-old Ralston Anthony Coley, charged with abetment of theft.

Coley was accused of purposely aiding one Orane Anthony Langley in the commission of a crime, to wit, theft, against businesswoman Jackie Wang of Antelope Street Extension on June 25.

Appearing with counsel Ronell Gonzalez, Coley pleaded not guilty before Senior Magistrate Baja Shoman. But Wang came to court and through a Mandarin interpreter said she would no longer proceed with the matter and was not being forced or coerced to do so.

Coley was initially free to leave but was held by Police on a separate matter.
