By Rubén Morales Iglesias: Belize cyclists Oscar Quiroz finishes 12th and Derrick Chavarria 17th in the Individual Time Trial (ITT) at the Central American & Caribbean Games being held in El Salvador on Wednesday morning.
Top seeded Colombian Miguel Angel López Moreno won gold in 49 minutes, 7.94 seconds (49:7.94) in a field of 18 riders. Haitian Odvet Cerge did not start the race. López’s countryman, Wálter Vargas captured silver in 49:23.54 and Bermudian Conor White took bronze in 49:55.11.
Quiroz clocked 57:18:40. He was 8:10.46 behind López. Chavarria was off by 10:16.93, timed at 59:24.87.
The ITT was held by the Ichanmichen Water Park in the city of Zacatecoluca. That’s the city where Krisean Lopez played professional football last season in the top Salvadoran Football League with Platense.
On Friday, Quiroz and Chavarria will compete in the Men’s Road Race at 11:00 am. Forty-six cyclists will compete in that race. Kaya Cattouse will represent in the Women’s Road Race on Friday at 9:00 am. She’ll be competing in a field of 37 riders.
