By Rubén Morales Iglesias: The Ministry of Blue Economy and Civil Aviation (MBECA) congratulated the BWSFA on their successful first-ever Annual General Meeting last Saturday.
“The BWSFA provides valuable support to its members by creating livelihood opportunities and uplifting the communities that depend on our rich blue resources,” MBECA said in a social media post.
“Through their innovative use of seaweed the women of the association have established themselves as leaders in this promising and thriving industry.”
MBECA said CEO Kennedy Carrillo’s presence at the BWSFA’s AGM in Placencia was to express the Ministry of Blue Economy and Civil Aviation’s continued support to their efforts.

The BWSFA makes a number of products including seaweed drinks like rum popo and shake with peanuts, gels, creams, powder, hair oils, dried seaweed, and seaweed capsules.
The Belize Women’s Seaweed Farmers Association said it held its first Annual General Meeting (AGM) on Saturday, July 1, 2023, in Placencia.
“BWSFA is learning and growing. Our work is vital in developing an equitable and inclusive seaweed industry,” the Belize Women’s Seaweed Farmers Association (BWSFA) said in a social media post.
“BWSFA’s Board of Directors and members express their utmost appreciation for the support of numerous donors, partners, followers, and residents of Placencia. We look forward to the continued collaboration.”
