By Zoila Palma Gonzalez: On July 5, 2023, Dr. Dennis Zulu, Director for International Labour Organization (ILO) Decent Work Team and Office for the Caribbean met with Minister of Labour Oscar Requena.
Discussions included areas of collaboration as well as the possible development of a Decent Work Country Programme (DWCP) for Belize and other priority areas.
The Ministry noted that the Decent Work Country Programme (DWCP) is a key component in advancing the national labour agenda by promoting social justice and decent work, as well as strengthening partnerships with the ILO, which provides support and assistance to its member countries.
Attendees also included ILO Representatives, Lars Johansen, Deputy Director ILO Decent Work Team, Ingerlyn Caines-Francis, Senior Programme Officer, and Pamela Ann Bradley, National Project Coordinator-Belize.
Ministry of Labour representatives included CEO Valentino Shal, Rissela Dominguez-Patt, Labour Commissioner, and Claire Lamb, Deputy Labour Commissioner.
