Over 100 fishers engage in “boat to boat” sessions on regulations surrounding lobster fishing

By Zoila Palma Gonzalez: The highly anticipated Lobster fishing season opened on July 1, 2023.

The Belize Audubon Society (BAS) has conducted “boat to boat” sessions educating fishers in the Lighthouse Reef Atoll about the regulations surrounding the Caribbean Spiny Lobster.

Over 100 fishers from Sarteneja, Chunox and Copper Bank were involved in these sessions conducted by Community Liaison Manager Lucito Ayuso and Marine Protected Areas Manager Marty Alvarez.

BAS noted that this initiative is supported by Biodiversity and Protected Areas Management (BIOPAMA).
