By Rubén Morales Iglesias: As the 2023-24 Premier League of Belize Opening Championship approaches in August, the PLB clubs are trading, dropping and adding players.
Port Layola FC are no exception and are strengthening their squad for the 2023-24 Opening Championship. The Belize City side has signed coach Charlie Slusher who became free when the San Pedro Pirates deal fell through. Slusher had a superb season with Progresso FC last season. The Orange Walk club qualified for the playoffs during the two championships.
They also added Belize Men’s National Team goalkeeper Charles Tillett who played last season for Progresso. Additionally, they’ve contracted the services of striker Steven Baizar, who’ll step into the shoes left vacant by last season’s top scorer Michael Palacio, who moved over to the Belmopan Bandits. Baizar is currently playing for the San Pedro Shark Shooters in the National Amateur Interdistrict Championship.
