Ambergris Caye lights up with the 2023 San Pedro Lobster Festival!

By Breaking Belize News Staff: The San Pedro Lobster Festival 2023 kicked off this week with an atmosphere of celebration, gastronomy, and music, marking the start of the lobster season on Ambergris Caye. Belize’s lobster season runs from July 1 to March 1 of the following year, which means the prized crustacean takes center stage on most menus during these months.

The San Pedro Lobster Festival, which began in 2007, stands out for being the longest Lobster Festival in Belize, stretching over a week plus with a series of events that culminate in a grand block party. The festivities began on Monday, July 3, and will continue until July 16. The schedule includes events such as visiting local shops, participating in a Lobster Beach BBQ, and indulging in all-you-can-eat lobster feasts.

Visitors are also encouraged to participate in the Lobsterfest Passport program. Each event attended and stamped on the passport increases the chances of winning the grand raffle prize at the Block Party. The Lobsterfest Passport can be picked up at the first event attendees visit, and can only be stamped at each event on its prescribed date.

The most anticipated event of the festival, the Block Party, will take place on July 15. The Block Party traditionally features live music, dancing, food booths, and a steel drum band. This event has a reputation for being the highlight of the festival, providing an authentic experience of Belizean culture and cuisine.

The festival concludes with a Beach Party on July 16. This year, the San Pedro Lobster Festival is expected to continue its tradition of bringing together locals and tourists alike in a celebration of the island’s culture, cuisine, and most importantly, its love for lobster.

Besides the San Pedro Lobster Festival, other regions in Belize such as Caye Caulker and Placencia also hold remarkable Lobsterfest events over long weekends.
