By Breaking Belize News Staff: Belizeans may have to wait yet another month before they can play their favorite game of chance, Boledo during the week, and lottery/jackpot on Sunday, as the government continues to tread carefully with the tendering process to avoid potential lawsuits. It’s been over two months since the game went offline, and not only are citizens who love the game missing the thrill of playing, but the government is also feeling the pinch from lost revenue.
This week, Prime Minister John Briceño answered questions from the press regarding the ongoing issue. He acknowledged the substantial loss of annual income for the government but he assured Belizeans that the revenue would be recuperated once the game is relaunched.
“Yes but then we’ll get a lot more when it’s launched. As I’ve said, we have to do it well, the former prime minister is looking at any step we take to see if we’re giving them any chance to be able to sue us,” said the PM.
The Prime Minister noted that if they rush the process and not do things diligently, the government would open itself up to criticisms and possible lawsuits. He added that they’ve extended the application period upon request from some interested parties. The deadline for applications is currently set for July 15th.
“I think it’s going to close I think the 15th of July so we are doing everything possible to do it properly and to ensure that the Belizean people benefit from the Belizean Boledo lottery,” he added.
When asked about the possible timeline for the game’s comeback, the Prime Minister predicted its return sometime in August.
“I believe that by next month, in August,” said Briceño.
While the government continues to try to avoid any legal ramifications, Belizean Boledo and Sunday Lottery fans are eagerly awaiting the game’s return.
