By Aaron Humes: Two Burrell Boom, Belize District residents appeared in court criminally charged in connection with last Saturday’s brawl in the village that left a Coast Guardsman in serious condition in hospital.
52-year-old Garrison Nicholson was arraigned before Chief Magistrate Jayani Wegodapola on charges of aggravated assault with a machete.
He pleaded not guilty and is out on bail of $1,500. His next court date is September 5 and he is not to contact any of the complainants or witnesses in the case.
Next was Adrian Myvette, 38, read two counts of attempted murder and an unrelated count of possession of a small amount of marijuana to which he pleaded guilty.
Myvette was however remanded without bail on the attempted murder charges until September 5 and agreed to serve the default four months imprisonment on the drug charge as well in lieu of a fine.
Nicholson is accused of assaulting one Robert Tillett who was defending his friend Daniel Sabido during the fight.
According to Tillett, he, Sabido and others were watching a basketball game when Sabido went over to a table where alcoholic beverages were being sold. There, he was allegedly attacked by one “Bol”, later identified as Nicholson, along with Sabido with a machete and pint bottle as they tried to defend themselves.
Police are said to expect to lay further charges against other persons alleged to be involved.
