By Breaking Belize News Staff: Mariners in Belize are being advised to exercise extreme caution as work is set to begin on the installation of an underwater pipeline in the area between Malacate Beach and Seine Bight’s west-side shore.
The Belize Water Services (BWS) announced the construction of a High-Density Polyethylene (HDPE) pipeline that will be laid on the lagoon bed, extending from Seine Bight Village to Independence Village. The project is slated to begin in mid-July 2023 and is expected to be completed by November 2023.
For the duration of the works, vessels will be restricted from navigating within the affected area. The BWS has issued an advisory to mariners to take note of this temporary restriction to avoid any disruption in their regular maritime activities.
Furthermore, strict adherence to the NO WAKE zone will be enforced by the Belize Port Authority during the installation period of the underwater pipeline crossing. This measure is expected to protect both the marine environment and the ongoing construction project.
BWS has apologized for any inconvenience the restriction might cause. It’s important for mariners to be aware of these changes and plan their routes accordingly during this period. BWS also emphasized the need for extreme caution when navigating the vicinity of the work area to ensure safety for all involved.
Stay tuned for further updates on the progress of the pipeline installation and any changes that may affect maritime traffic in the region.
