By Zoila Palma Gonzalez: Hailing from the picturesque island of Caye Caulker, complete with its sandy beaches, invigorating Caribbean breezes, and delectable Belizean cuisine, Jamira Rosado enters the race for the title of Miss Lobster Fest 2023.

The 18-year-old contestant is boldly pursuing a dream she has held for years. A former school pageant queen, Jamira clinched the title of Miss Wesley Lower School in Belize during her primary school days.

Reflecting on her biggest supporter, she shared, “My late grandmother always pushed me to excel. I remember promising her that when I’m old enough to compete, I’d make her proud. Now, at 18, I’m contending for the title of Miss Lobster Fest 2023/24. I remind myself daily that dreams paint a picture of possibilities, and with a resilient heart and mind, we can turn those into reality.”

Passionate about helping others, Jamira is also a fan of swimming, volleyball, and sports in general. She views the Miss Lobster Fest Pageant as a platform to empower young women, fostering leadership and sharing her passion for cosmetology.

“I hope to bring back my skills and knowledge to become one of the top cosmetologists on the island I call home,” she elaborated on her aspirations.

Furthermore, Jamira seeks to further her education in cosmetology and is hoping to secure a scholarship to alleviate financial pressures on her mother.

Committed to societal causes, she plans to advocate against domestic violence, a scourge she seeks to eradicate. “Domestic violence isn’t just a headline—it’s a destructive force attacking generations. Let’s unite and break this cycle,” she firmly stated.

The Caye Caulker Lobster Fest, slated for July 14 through July 16, 2023, is a much-anticipated, vibrant celebration held annually on the island of Caye Caulker, Belize.

The festival pays homage to the opening of the lobster season and the cultural significance of lobster fishing to the local community.

Over these three days, attendees from all around the world relish the plethora of lobster-themed culinary delights, cultural performances, and music.

One of the main highlights is the Miss Lobster Fest Pageant, an event that symbolizes the spirit of community and empowerment.

This year, the festival promises an extravaganza of color, flavor, and festivity, continuing its tradition of promoting local talent and Belizean heritage.
