By Breaking Belize News Staff: A 5.2 magnitude earthquake has hit Hualien County in eastern Taiwan early Monday morning, as reported by Focus Taiwan. The quake struck at 6:11 a.m., according to the Central Weather Bureau (CWB).
The CWB’s Seismology Center pinpointed the epicenter of the tremor to be located approximately 7.8 kilometers northwest of Hualian County Hall, at a depth of about 15.3 kilometers.
The impact of the earthquake was quantified using Taiwan’s specific 7-tier intensity scale, which measures the actual effects of a seismic event rather than the raw energy released. Parts of Hualien, Nantou, and Taichung experienced a level 4 intensity, while Yilan witnessed a level 3 intensity.
As of the latest reports, there have been no immediate reports of damage or injuries resulting from the quake. Authorities are closely monitoring the situation and further updates will be provided as information becomes available.
It is important to note that Taiwan is located in a seismically active zone, known as the Pacific “Ring of Fire”. This area is notorious for frequent earthquakes and volcanic activity due to the movement of tectonic plates.
