Supermarket in Calcutta Village, Corozal District, robbed in broad daylight

By Breaking Belize News Staff: A supermarket in Calcutta Village, Corozal District was the target of a broad daylight robbery on Sunday.

At approximately 3:14 pm on Sunday, July 9th, 2023, the robbery was reported to police by an 18-year-old student who is the son of the store’s owner.

The student reported that he was present at his mother’s store, Community Supermarket, when two male individuals charged into the store. One of the men, described as a dark-complexioned male was dressed in black and had a bandana concealing his face. The second individual also had his face covered and was brandishing a kitchen knife.

After demanding money, one of the robbers bent over the counter and took some money from the cash drawer. Both individuals then quickly exited the store.

Fearful of potential harm, the young student refrained from intervening during the theft. His mother later discovered that BZ$400 in various denominations was missing from the drawer.
