By Aaron Humes: The Statistical Institute of Belize (SIB) has measured the consumer price index (CPI) at 5.4 percent compared to the same period in 2022.

Although there have been some decreases this year, prices remain relatively higher for 2023 than 2022, particularly in the areas of food and fuel. Food and non-alcoholic beverages are up nearly 14 percent; restaurants and hotels are charging 10 percent more and other categories except for utilities which fell 0.7 percent.

Cereal, dairy, fresh fruit, meats, vegetables and cooking oils suffered the brunt of increases but there were lower prices for pineapple, pigtail and red kidney beans.
