Pregnant woman and her brother from Victoria Street charged with attempted murder of Leon Shane Vernon

By Aaron Humes: A brother and sister, the latter expecting a child, are accused of attempting to take the life of Leon Shane Vernon on Victoria Street on Monday.

35-year-old Pamela Estrada and Ricky Scotty Jones, 28, appeared before Chief Magistrate Jayani Wegodapola, jointly charged with attempted murder and dangerous harm upon Leon Shane Vernon.

No plea was taken and each was remanded until September 14, their next court date although they can apply for High Court bail before then.

Police’s initial investigation revealed that on Monday, July 10, at about 4:00 p.m., a brawl broke out inside a residence on Victoria Street and Leon Vernon was seen running out of the yard with apparent stab wounds to his body.

Police say Vernon was further attacked by several individuals on the street and then collapsed a distance away and was quickly transported by Police to the hospital to seek medical attention.

At last report Vernon was listed in a critical but stable condition.

Police say they are looking for one other suspect whose identity they know but who remains at large.
