Belizean-American acquitted of murder on Ambergris Caye

Posted: Saturday, July 15, 2023. 4:00 pm CST.

By Aaron Humes: High Court judge Ricardo O’Neil Sandcroft on Friday acquitted 34-year-old Lolman Richard Logan, originally from Corozal but now living in the United States, of the September 27, 2018 murder of Christopher Meighan in San Pedro Town on Ambergris Caye.

Meighan was found in a sitting position between two beds in a room at the Central Park Hotel near the town center. He was dressed in a white undershirt and brown and blackish short pants and he was barefooted. He had received multiple stab wounds and his throat was cut.

The incident was reportedly captured on surveillance cameras inside the hotel, which led to the arrest of Logan as he was boarding a plane at the international airport in Ladyville. A second man, one Rufino Hernandez, was also charged but his charges were later withdrawn by prosecutors.

Judge Sandcroft found that the evidence against Logan was insufficient and unclear and that he was left uncertain as to what really transpired in the hotel room.

Logan, represented by defense counsel Leeroy Banner, maintained his innocence, blaming a “Rasta man” for the murder and insisting that he was only trying to help Meighan. At the time of the murder, he was visiting Belize on vacation.
