Belize beat Panama 3-0 in opener of U-19 Women’s Central American Volleyball Championship at the Civic

By Rubén Morales Iglesias: Belize started off with a statement of strength beating Panama 3-0 in their first game of the U-19 Women’s Central American Volleyball Championship, organized by the Belize Volleyball Association (BVA) and the Association of Central American Volleyball Federations (AFECAVOL).

The tournament, being played at the Belize City Civic Center, started on Sunday, July 16, and runs until Saturday, July 22, 2023.

Belize gave an impressive performance blanking Panama 3-0 (25-11, 25-16, 25-13). Belize controlled then ebb and flow leading Panama 35-12 in attacks, 8-1 in blocks, 11-7 in serves, and collecting 21 points from Panama’s errors while conceding 19.

Nisaan Martinez led Belize with 15 points, Khaya Gordon tallied 14, and Blessed Omamurhe contributed 11. Panama were led by Ariann Hernández with nine.

In the opening game, El Salvador beat Honduras 3-1 (25-16, 25-22, 18-25, 25-15). Nicaragua then defeated Guatemala 3-1 (25-23, 25-14, 20-25, 25-21).

El Salvador open on Tuesday against Nicaragua, followed by Panama against Honduras. In the final game, Belize will take on defending champions Costa Rica at 7:30 pm.
