Students benefit from Belize Forest Department annual Healthy Forests summer camp

By Zoila Palma Gonzalez: The Belize Forest Department held its annual summer camp from July 10-14, 2023.

The camp was held under the theme “Healthy Forests for Healthy People”.

Participants engaged in interactive activities and learnt about the programs of the Forest Department.

In addition, the participants learnt about conservation initiatives with Belize Bird Rescue, Corozal Sustainable Future Initiative, Friends for Conservation and Development, The Belize Zoo and Tropical Education Center, Wildlife Conservation Society (WCS) Belize, Crocodile Research Coalition and Full Circle Belize.

Hands on learning of conservation efforts was promoted through a field trip to the Green Iguana Conservation Project as students learnt about the rehabilitation of green iguanas.

Participants also visited Bulridge Ltd. teak plantation and were taught about the equipment used in sustainable forest management.

The Forest Department thanked participants and  sponsors including UNDP Belize WCS Belize, Belize Bird Rescue, and Minister of Sustainable Development, Orlando Habet.
