By Celeste Chang: According to the Government of Belize Press Office, the Placencia Peninsula business community and the Ministry of Tourism partnered with the Ministry of Home Affairs, Belize Police Department, Area Representative Hon. Rodwell Ferguson and Seine Bight Village Council in building a brand new police station for the village of Seine Bight, Stann Creek District.
This is to aid in reducing crime but also a motivation for police officers to ensure they are properly serving the people.
Commissioner of Police Chester Williams stated that “this station just by the looks of it have the officers on this village well motivated to work, it is not just about a building but to ensure that the building does have the amenities to make the police officers job much easier.”
Ferguson recalled, “Commissioner, when we had the crime great in the peninsula I called you based off the chairman’s House request and you responded, I think one or two days after, and today we have seen a wonderful and a huge transformation at the Placencia at the Placencia Police Unit. So I want to give the police kudos for their support and their dedication and their hard work.”
Tourism Minister Anthony Mahler and his administrative team have developed a listof the requirement of a safe Belizeans and our guests. He continued stating that they try our best to spread the resources that they have as much as possible in non traditional areas they believe can enhance the tourism product.
As the government makes their efforts to develop our countries safety protocols for citizens and tourists we hope that it helps with the decreasing of crime rates and the promotion of tourism.
