By Aaron Humes: 29-year-old Carlos Beltran, originally from El Salvador, should have left Belize shortly after entering it illegally in 2014.
But he didn’t, settling down, finding work, and even becoming father to a 4-year-old daughter.
Nevertheless the law caught up with him and he is now behind bars for three months pending an order of deportation.
Beltran pleaded guilty to failing to comply with an order to leave before Magistrate Mannon Dennison and was unable to pay his $1,000 fine.
In 2014, he entered through the Mopan River near Benque Viejo, not being an authorized port of entry, and was almost immediately caught by authorities and issued an order to leave, with which he failed to comply.
