By Aaron Humes: 18-year-old Vincent Lopez will spend three years behind bars on conviction for keeping an unlicensed firearm and unlicensed ammunition despite claiming he carried it for protection.
According to Lopez, he came under attack, allegedly by 3 males he recognized whilst walking on Police Street on Sunday, July 16.
Magistrate Khiana Gordon considered that this was Lopez’s first conviction for a gun-related offense; guilty plea and youth (he is the father of a three-year-old daughter) and decided against the maximum five-year prison sentence for carrying unlicensed weaponry.
She sentenced him to 3 years for the gun and 1 year for the ammunition to run concurrently starting as of Monday.
