By Rubén Morales Iglesias: With one game less, Costa Rica pushed Nicaragua out of the top spot in the Under 19 Central American Women’s Volleyball Championship beating their neighbours in straight sets 25-19, 26-24, 25-12 at the Belize City Civic Center on Wednesday.
Led by Angélica Rodríguez and Joselyn Moraga with 16 points each, the Costa Ricans wiped out Nicaragua out of the court and took over the top spot accumulating three consecutive wins to the Nicaraguans three wins and one loss. Jilma Tirrez scored 12 points for Nicaragua.
Costa Rica now tally 14 points from three games while Nicaragua have 13 out of four.
Belize follow in third place with six points; five from their 3-0 win over Panama and one point from the 3-1 loss to Costa Rica.
El Salvador, who also sport six points, are in fourth place having won one game and lost two.
Guatemala, who have only played two games, are in fifth place with five points from a win and a loss.
Panama also have five points but occupy the sixth berth with a 1-2 record and having played one more game than the Guatemalans.
Honduras are in the cellar with only one point after three losses in a row and will remain there unless they shock Belize 3-0 on Wednesday night and Panama lose 3-0 to Guatemala.
