Belize win 2nd game, wipe out Honduras 3-0 in Under 19 Central American Women’s Volleyball Championship on Wednesday

By Rubén Morales Iglesias: Belize came back roaring after one day of rest and crucified Honduras 3-0 (25-13, 25-12, 25-9) in the fourth day of the Under 19 Central American Women’s Volleyball Championship at the Belize City Civic Center on Wednesday.

Led by Khaya Gordon with 16 points, Nisaan Martinez with 14, and Kaleigh Cardinez with 12, Belize were totally dominant over Honduras, whose top scorer, Marynur Martinez could only total six points.

Belize dominated attacks 35-14, blocks 7-0, and serves 21-6. However, the team made 14 errors to Honduras’ 12.

“The game was very intense and fun, I enjoyed it. I scored a lot of service points because the opponents weren’t a very good team in the passing,” Cardinez said.

Honduran player Amarai Ghadesi praised the Belize team.

“Belize has a very good team, they are very good,” Ghadesi said to Afecavol.

“We made a lot of mistakes in reception, but apart from that, we gave everything we could. I feel very proud to represent my country, losing or winning with them. It’s an honour to be a catracha.”

In the other games Costa Rica blanked Nicaragua 3-0 (25-19, 26-24, 25-12) and Guatemala did likewise with Panama.

Belize remain in third place now with 11 points from two wins and a loss. They trail Costa Rica, who lead with 14, and Nicaragua, who are in second place with 13.

Belize will face a much more powerful opponent in Nicaragua on Thursday while Honduras rest after four straight losses.
