By Rubén Morales Iglesias: The Belize Football Federation (FFB) announced on Wednesday that the Under 15 Belize Boys National Football Team (BBNT) have won their first training match 5-2 against Alianza Nacional FC during their 20-day training in Colombia.

Winning their first training game in Colombia is a great boost for our young players who are training hard in preparation for the 2023 Concacaf U15 Championship to be held in Curaçao from August 4-11. Our boys are competing in League B’ Group G against Bermuda, Cayman Islands, and Aruba.

The FFB congratulated the BBNT for their excellent performance and encouraged them to keep up the good work.

“Keep up the awesome work team and continue representing Belize,” the FFB said in a social media post.

“The FFB is proud to have a team of young boys from across the country of Belize representing the Jewel and putting in the work to prepare for the upcoming Concacaf U15 Championship.”

Before they left for Colombia, the FFB’s Technical Director Philip Marin said the team is embarking ‘on a journey for glory’.

“Our goal for this team, U15 boys’ team is for us to advance to the 2027 FIFA [Under 20] World Cup which is four years ahead of us,” Marin said at the BBNT presentation at the FFB Headquarters on Thursday, July 13.

Immediately after the Colombia training, the team will leave for Curaçao where they will kick off the participation in the Concacaf Championship against Bermuda on Sunday, August 6, at 11 am. The second game is set for Monday, August 7, against Cayman Islands before closing group action against Aruba on Tuesday, August 8.

“Our plan is to advance from the group and get into the semifinals and then to the final.”

“We have been training for over 17 to 18 weeks. We have gone to Costa Rica to participate in the Uncaf U15 Boys Championship.

Marin said that in Colombia the BBNT would be focusing on the physical development of a player so they would be doing a lot of physical work.”

Dale Pelayo is the head coach of the BBNT.
