World Meteorological Organization forecasts heatwaves to continue through August

Posted: Friday, July 21, 2023. 2:40 pm CST.

By Zoila Palma Gonzalez: Several countries around the globe are experiencing record-breaking heat waves prompting health alerts.

Earlier this week, the World Meteorological Organization (WMO) indicated that it expected temperatures in North America, Asia, North Africa and the Mediterranean to be above 104 Fahrenheit “for a prolonged number of days this week as the heatwave intensifies.”

Meanwhile, Europe is grappling with a heatwave during the peak summer tourist season, prompting the authorities to warn the population of an increased risk of health problems and even death.

In addition, the United States health officials continue to advise residents to find cool areas, drink enough waters and avoid strenuous outdoor activities as the heat affects Southern California to the Deep South.

Leading NASA expert, Gavin Schmid said he believes this month could be the hottest month on record.
