By Breaking Belize News Staff: The loved ones of Esperanza Carrias are calling for justice and assistance following a tragic accident.
On July 4, 2023, Esperanza was riding on a motorcycle along the Benque Viejo road in San Ignacio when she was involved in an accident with a white SUV.
The family alleges that the SUV was driven by a well-known elderly woman and claim that no action has been taken by the authorities. The family is appealing to the driver of the SUV to accept responsibility.
The family of the driver of the white SUV reached out to Breaking Belize News (BBN) late this evening clarifying that who is at fault has not yet been determined. Since the investigation has not yet concluded, both parties have reportedly been served with a Notice of Intended Prosecution (NIP). One of the setbacks in the investigation is that an injured Esperanza has allegedly not yet been able to give a statement to the police.
Currently, Esperanza is in critical condition at the Karl Heusner Memorial Hospital (KHMH). Esperanza sustained a broken leg, requiring immediate surgery, and suffered brain trauma leading to numerous complications, including memory loss and uncharacteristic behavior.
In a plea circulated on social media, the family is also seeking O+ blood donors to facilitate Esperanza’s upcoming surgery.
As of now, there has been no official police report issued about this traffic accident.
