Belizean Derrick Chavarria wins Lombard Cycling Classic Cat 2 Elite on 5th day of Intelligentsia Cup in Chicago, Kaya Cattouse places 3rd in Women’s Cat 2/3 Elite

By Rubén Morales Iglesias: Belizean cyclists Derrick Chavarria and Kaya Cattouse excelled in the Lombard Cycling Classic on the fifth day of the Intelligentsia Cup in Chicago.

‘Baby Chav’, as Chavarria is called, clinched the top spot in the Lombard Cycling Classic in the Men Cat 2 Elite riding for Team Belize ahead of Americans Woodmansee Craig and Ian Abrahams.

Chavarria said he didn’t compete on Day 1 at West Dundee and then he crashed on Day 2 on the Ray Whelan Builders Tour of Lake Ellyn. He placed 42^nd. On Day 3, he finished third on July 23 in the Winfield Criterium. On Day 4, Chavarria placed sixth at the Mundelein Grand Prix and on Tuesday, he topped the Lombard Cycling Classic.

“Chavarria Derrick wins first place after a 5 man team bz effort came together for one goal,” Rick Ayuso posted on social media.

Shawn Codd riding for Team G Flow was 27^th. His teammates Goran Gabourel and Jyven Gonzalez finished 29^th and 39^th respectively. Wassani Castro riding for Rolling Shattaz did not finish today’s race.

In the Women’s Cat 2/3 Elite, Kaya Cattouse riding for LA Sweat clinched third place behind winner Valerie Laroche.

The other Belizean rider, Gabby Gabourel placed 12^th in the Women’s Cat 4/Novice Elite.
