James Escarpeta identified as latest murder victim, second in Belize City in 30-hour span

Posted: Wednesday, July 26, 2023. 7:59 pm CST.

By Aaron Humes: Police sources have confirmed the identity of tonight’s shooting victim, who has been confirmed dead, as 38-year-old James Escarpeta.

Escarpeta resided on George Street in an apartment complex and was well-known to authorities. He was accused of various crimes ranging from drug trafficking to murder, including the 2019 attempt to rob Buca Service Station on Constitution Drive, Belmopan, where he was stopped by the station’s attendants.

A motive for tonight’s murder, the second in 30 hours following that of Steve Moss yesterday, is being determined as police investigations get underway.
