Belizean Derrick Chavarria places 2nd in Cycle Brookfield Criterium on Day 6 of Intelligentsia Cup in Chicago, Kaya Cattouse places 5th

By Rubén Morales Iglesias: Belizean cyclists Derrick Chavarria and Kaya Cattouse again posted a top performance in the sixth day of the Intelligentsia Cup in Chicago during the Cycle Brookfield Criterium on Wednesday.

Chavarria secured second place in the Brookfield race in the Men Cat 2 Elite riding for Team Belize just behind winner Benjamin Juracich of Liquid Velo Expiditiers.

The day before, Chavarria won the Lombard Cycling Classic on Day 5. Chavarria didn’t compete on Day 1 at West Dundee and then crashed on Day 2 on the Ray Whelan Builders Tour of Lake Ellyn. He placed 42^nd. On Day 3, he captured third place on July 23 in the Winfield Criterium. On Day 4, Chavarria placed sixth at the Mundelein Grand Prix.

At Brookfield, Wasani Castro placed 27^th. Jyven Gonzalez, riding for G-Flow, finished 29^th. Shawn Codd and Goran Gabourel, also riding for G-Flow Cycling Team, did not finish.

At Lombard, Codd was 27^th, Goran Gabourel 29^th and Jyven Gonzalez 39^th, while Castro did not finish.

Holy Saturday Cross Country Cycling Classic Champion Cory Williams of L39ION of Los Angeles was eighth in the Men Pro 1/2 Elite at Brookfield on Wednesday.

In the Women’s Cat 2/3 Elite, Kaya Cattouse riding for LA Sweat finished fifth at Brookfield. On Tuesday, Cattouse clinched third place at Lombard.

Gabrielle Gabourel finished 7^th in the Women’s Cat 4/Novice Elite on Day 6 riding for G-Flow. Gabourel was 12^th on Tuesday.

On Thursday, the races will be at Northbrook.

The Intelligentsia Cup finishes at Fulton in Chicago on Sunday, July 30.
