By Aaron Humes: The Ministry of Education, Culture, Science and Technology has announced official activities for the forthcoming weekend celebration of Emancipation Day.
Emancipation Day will be observed on Monday, July 31, in lieu of Tuesday, August 1.
A church ceremony beginning at 10:45 Sunday night at Queen Street Baptist Church will bring in the day. The Church was the site of the reading of the proclamation announcing the freeing of slaves in Belize.
Official ceremonies take place Monday morning at the Government House (House of Culture) followed by the Eboe Town Festival at Yarborough Green beginning at 11 a.m. Across town at the Civic Center grounds there will be a breakfast concert sponsored by the UBAD Educational Foundation.
Emancipation Day was first observed in Belize as a holiday in 2021.
