By Aaron Humes: Facing another of the regional powerhouses in the FIBA U-17 Centrobasket Tournament in the Dominican Republic, Belize gave a good account of themselves, leading by 2 at the end of the first quarter, then trailing by three at the half and by ten with 4:22 remaining in the final quarter.
But a final scoring burst of 19-12 put away the game with a 95-78 final score, consigning Belize to the bronze medal game versus Mexico while the Dominicans and Puerto Rico play for gold.
The top three teams will advance to the FIBA U-18 Americas Championship so there is still some history to be made Sunday night as the third-place game goes on before the gold medal match.
