By Aaron Humes: A fight among brothers and employees whilst at their workplace on the George Price Highway, ended in one employee under blood and two brothers detained and charged with wounding.
18-year-old Vicente Fernandez Mendoza of Louisiana Area, Orange Walk Town, and his older brother, 21-year-old Herman Santos Mendoza of Trinidad Village, Orange Walk District, pleaded guilty to a charge of wounding upon Melvin Mendoza on July 19 at their workplace.
The complainant Melvin Mendoza, 37, a laborer of Trial Farm Village, Orange Walk District told police that at around 4:00 p.m. on July 19 whilst unloading steel rods at their workplace, he was approached by Hernan Mendoza who told him he was wasting time and to move faster with the unloading.
They began to argue and the younger brother used insulting words to his elder in Spanish, then left and later returned with another brother and a physical altercation began.
As the brawl continued according to Mendoza, he intervened and told the brothers to stop fighting when Hernan turned on him and told him, “Shut up, I got it out for you.”
Vicente Mendoza then intervened and hit Melvin Mendoza to the left side of his face with a cement block and he began to bleed. He fell to the ground, and that’s when Hernan began to punch him in his face.
Vicente denied throwing the block but their guilty pleas were accepted and each were fined $800 and cost of court due by December 29, in default three months imprisonment; Hernan wound up quitting the establishment, he said.
