By Rubén Morales Iglesias: Belize, represented by Sadie Vernon High School, bounced back after an initial loss to Panama and on Thursday defeated Nicaragua 51-41 in the CODICADER Games Boys’ Basketball Championship at St Catherine Academy Mercy Center in Belize City.
The game was rather competitive with Belize leading all the way, but Nicaragua rallied with scoring runs in the second, third, and fourth quarters and got too close for comfort. However, Team Belize was able to weather the storm and beat the Nicaraguans by ten points. They are now 1-1 behind Panama, 2-0, who on Thursday defeated Honduras 66-33.
In the Girls Championship, Team Belize (Sacred Heart College) fell 48-23 to Nicaragua’s Colegio Roberto Clemente on Thursday. On Wednesday, the Belize Team lost to Panama 47-16.
