Seasoned thief strikes again – John Hoy jailed for eight months

By Aaron Humes: John Hugh Hoy, 55, claims to be a fisherman by trade but he is better known for hooking others’ personal items.

On Friday he was sent behind bars for eight months after admitting to stealing a worker’s bag when he was busy unloading a truck for Vin Fa Shopping Center on Cemetery Road.

Hoy was charged with the theft of a Kenneth Cole brand knapsack containing the personal items and cash of Brandon Hernandez on Wednesday, to a total value of $693.90.

In court, Hoy pleaded guilty though he claimed there was no money inside the bag. He had been caught on surveillance footage and was still literally holding the bag when police detained him.

Hoy has three previous convictions for crimes of dishonesty as well as possession of drug paraphernalia.
