Posted: Saturday, August 5, 2023. 2:34 pm CST.

By Zoila Palma Gonzalez:  Over the past weekend, U.S. authorities apprehended a migrant who was found carrying seven spider monkeys within his backpack.

CBS reports that the endangered monkeys were discovered in the possession of a young Mexican individual.

The spider monkeys, native to Central and South America, were subsequently handed over to the U.S. Fish and Wildlife Service for proper care and handling.

These creatures are classified as critically endangered, featuring among the world’s 25 most threatened primates, as identified by the Wildlife Conservation Society. This incident highlights the need for stringent measures to safeguard endangered wildlife and prevent their illegal transportation and trade.
