Day 1 at North American Powerlifting Association’s Regional Championships nets Belize team three golds, two silvers and two bronzes

By Aaron Humes: Belize’s seven-member powerlifter team won as many medals in their first day of competition on Tuesday at Grand Cayman, Cayman Islands.

Winning gold in their categories were Alida Sharp, Rhea Tsai and Eric Sanabria. Finishing second in their categories were Shakira Oxley-Tsai and Kaelie Burgess. Finishing third in their categories were Edith Ruiz and Leo Matura.

The winners are from different clubs in Belize who form part of the Belize Powerlifting Association.

“Our athletes have worked arduously to get here and to put their best on that international platform. They gave it their all. We are so proud of them. Congratulations!” The organization said in a statement.

Competitions continue through Friday.
