National champions Verdes stumble to second straight defeat in CONCACAF Central American Club Championship, 3-0 to Alajuelense of Costa Rica

By Aaron Humes: Verdes of Cayo have a major hole to dig out of if they are to advance past the group stage of the inaugural CONCACAF Central American Cup, a qualifier to the regional Champions Cup.

On Tuesday at the FFB Stadium, Belmopan, the Green Machine were run over 3-0 by Costa Rican giants LD Alajuelense after a 5-0 defeat by Honduras’ Motagua last week.

Two more matches remain and only the top two from each group advance to the next round.

Verdes’ next games are away to Sporting San Miguelito in Panama and Olancho of Honduras.
