Price of regular gasoline rises by 96 cents

By Aaron Humes: While there has been no formal confirmation as the Government no longer reports on prices for gasoline, several sources have confirmed that prices for regular gasoline rose by nearly a dollar earlier this week.

Prices are now a reported $12.96 per gallon in Belize City and higher depending on location elsewhere in Belize.

While premium and diesel gasoline have been capped in price since shortly after the start of the Russia-Ukraine war a year ago, regular gasoline has not been.

Prime Minister John Briceño said the government has severely curtailed its tax take on gasoline at the cost of needed revenue but there does not appear to be a timeline for the stabilization and reduction of gas prices other than the Government maintaining it will try to recover the lost revenue over time.
