By Breaking Belize News Staff: Erasmus James Lino, 20, a father of two from a Dolphin Street address pleaded guilty in court today to beating up his common-law-wife but was spared jail time and given a fine.

Lino appeared unrepresented before the Chief Magistrate in court #1 where he was read a charge of wounding.

He is accused of wounding his common-law-wife on August 9. Medico legal forms confirmed his spouse was seen with bruises and she complained of pain.

Lino pleaded guilty to the charged but begged for leniency as he is the sole provider for his family even though he and his common-law-wife are separated. He apologized and told the court he would never do it again.

The Chief Magistrate took into consideration that this was Lino’s first conviction for a crime of violence and the fact that he pleaded guilty early. He was fined  $500 plus a $5 cost of court fine. He has until October 13, to pay, in default, 6 months imprisonment.
