By Breaking Belize News Staff: The People’s Constitution Commission (PCC) held an information session in Belize City this weekend in collaboration with the National Kriol Council (NKC).
The sessions were held at the Swift Hall in the Lake Independence Community, where keynote speaker Edward P. Usher presented on Section Two of the Constitution of Belize and the Rule of Law. Vice President of the NKC Michael Kemp, explained that the council is planning to further engage Kriol communities countrywide on the ongoing process to amend the constitution.
“This is just a start. We’re hoping to build momentum so by the time the recommendations come out, all our people will be informed about the process,” Kemp said.
The NKC is one of the 23 special interest groups that make up the PCC and is charged to add to the list of recommendations for amendments to the constitution. The PCC launched its public education and consultation campaign at the end of June and is expected to hand over recommended changes to the government in 2024.
